This blog is one year old

Original – by Freek Van der Herten – 2 minute read

Exactly one year ago the very first post on murze.be was published. This blog was mainly started as a way to bookmark interesting links. Along the way I shared programming tips, talked a bit about learning and gave some background on the Spatie packages.

It's been a fun ride and looking at the statistics I see that some of you find all this stuff interesting too. These were the 10 most popular posts:

  1. A Laravel webshop
  2. Using Elasticsearch in Laravel
  3. A Laravel package to retrieve Google Analytics data
  4. Building a crawler in PHP
  5. Manage newsletters in Laravel 5
  6. Speed up a Laravel app by caching the entire response
  7. Higher order programming
  8. On open sourcing Blender
  9. An SSL certificate chain resolver
  10. Uploading large files to S3 with Laravel 5
To keep myself informed on what is going on the tech world I read a lot of blogs. These ones come highly recommended:

bram.us by Bram Van Damme: the main inspiration for my own blog. It's a collection of links to cool stuff, with sometimes a bit of commentary. Be sure to also check out Bram's handy mixed content scanner.

ma.ttias.be by Mattias Geniar: if you agree that you can become a better developer by knowing some server management, than this is the blog for you. Mattias mainly blogs on devops and ops related topics. Be sure to check out his recently launched newsletter cron.weekly.

laravel-news.com by Eric L. Barnes: absolutely the best news site when it comes to Laravel related news. Every week Eric sends out an excellent newsletter, so be sure to subscribe to that.

blog.madewithlove.be by (amongst others) Maxime Fabre, Hannes Van De Vreken and Bram Devries: the quality and thoroughness of the content on this blog is amazing.

derickbailey.com by Derick Bailey: this blog is an excellent learing resource for learning modern JavaScript. Derick also runs watchmecode.com, a subscription based video learning site.

What are your favourite blogs? Let me know in the comments below.

Stay up to date with all things Laravel, PHP, and JavaScript.

You can follow me on these platforms:

On all these platforms, regularly share programming tips, and what I myself have learned in ongoing projects.

Every month I send out a newsletter containing lots of interesting stuff for the modern PHP developer.

Expect quick tips & tricks, interesting tutorials, opinions and packages. Because I work with Laravel every day there is an emphasis on that framework.

Rest assured that I will only use your email address to send you the newsletter and will not use it for any other purposes.
